Don’t miss out on the opportunity to explore one of Mexico’s hidden gems—Cozumel. Whether you’re getting tired of bundling up due to the cold weather in St. Louis or you’re simply hoping to explore the rich culture of Mexico, traveling to Cozumel will be “Amor a primera vista”—love at first sight.
Cozumel is an island located 12 miles off the coast, opposite of the Yucatán Peninsula. Due to its distance from some of the other popular Mexico tourist destinations, such as Cancun and Playa del Carmen, you’ll find that Cozumel is a tranquil retreat. If you’re looking to soak in the views as much as the sun, you’ll want to visit places such as El Mirador, located on the east side of the island. There, you can climb on top of a natural rock formation to bask in the gorgeous views of the island and watch the sun set. On the west side, you can visit the capital of the island, San Miguel. Walk near the shore, visit the bustling shops, or grab a bite of delicious food made by locals.
If you’re hoping to incorporate some more adventure into your trip, Cozumel has several exciting tours and opportunities for you to enjoy the natural world that surrounds the island. Home to the second largest coral reef in the world, the island prides itself in conservation efforts, education, and exposure to its natural beauty. For example, you can learn how to snorkel and scuba dive with professionals. Popular places to visit for a unique experience include Maracaibo, Devil’s Throat, or Barracuda. Wave to turtles and stingrays during your aquatic journey and the experience of a lifetime.
With all of these activities, you’ll likely work up a hefty appetite. Try delicious tacos, ceviche, and more fresh seafood on the island. For the foodies, take a food tour with local chefs and explore island cuisine. Cozumel is sure to show you and your travel pals a great time.
