In the heart of Tennessee is its capital city, Nashville. A growing city that still maintains a downhome and hospitable Southern vibe, Nashville has plenty to offer, no matter what you may have in mind during your stay.
Known as Music City, Nashville really is any music lover’s dream. Visit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum to view memorabilia, explore exhibits, and immerse yourself in the legacies of the legends of country music. You can keep the music going with a trip to the Ryman Auditorium. A converted church that’s famously the home of the Grand Ole Opry show, it truly is one of the great live music venues in the world and worth a visit.
If you’re itching to get out and explore Nashville’s natural splendor, there are plenty of places to choose from. Grab your camera and head to Old Hickory Lake for plenty of outdoor activities such as hiking, boating, swimming, and fishing. You can pack a picnic lunch or even enjoy a night of camping. The Warner Parks are another wonderful destination for hiking. A sprawling and lush wildlife and nature conservation area, the parks also feature an 11-mile biking path, a dog park, equestrian trail, and two golf courses. A canoe trip along the Harpeth River provides a prime opportunity to spot wildlife, commune with nature, or simply soak up some sun.
Night owls will surely fall in love with Nashville. Live music venues and restaurants dot Broadway, the main drag that runs through downtown. Whether you want to continue with the country music theme or are looking for some rock or dance music, there’s sure to be a show in town that gets your toes tapping. And if all that dancing makes you hungry, you can order up some Nashville-style hot chicken, a local specialty found on many of the menus in this city’s bevy of barbecue joints. Up for something more international? Head to the Joelton neighborhood for Italian food, Germantown for German cuisine, or Nolensville Road, where you’ll find a virtual atlas of food featuring everything from taco trucks to kebab houses, Kurdish bakeries to Thai and Nepalese grocery stores. It all comes down to what you have a hankering for—because Nashville’s sure to have what you need.
