When you arrive at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, you’ll find yourself on the northwesternmost edge of the city but just a quick ‘L’ ride away from the hustle and bustle of the Loop. Renting a car is always an option, but Chicago is home to the CTA—buses and trains that can take you all over the city with ease. In a city of neighborhoods, this is especially convenient.
Sink your teeth into the city with a meal. Popular Chicagoland staples include Italian beef, hot dogs covered in veggies (but never, ever ketchup), and pizza (both deep dish and thin crust), but there’s so much more on the menu. Dozens of eclectic communities across the city offer authentic cuisines from around the globe, and Restaurant Row in the West Loop is home to no shortage of Michelin-starred eateries. Not sure what you’re hungry for? Food halls are all the rage—get a taste of everything.
There’s much more on the list of can’t-miss Chicago than cuisine, though. Take advantage of being in a global hub for comedy and take in an improv show. Visit Museum Campus for a day at Shedd Aquarium or the Adler Planetarium, then head north to explore Millennium Park and pose for a reflection selfie at Cloud Gate—known as The Bean to Chicagoans. See if the Art Institute of Chicago is hosting any traveling exhibits, or head to Old Town to explore the Chicago History Museum for a deep dive into this bustling burg that’s always building, breaking, and rebuilding.
