Kona might be known for its incredible coffee, active volcanoes, and historic Hawaiian sites, but it’s almost criminal not to explore the other islands. Now, local residents of the island and visitors can pack their bags for a trip to Honolulu.
No trip to Oahu would be complete without hitting the island’s famous beaches. With over two miles of beautiful Pacific shoreline to explore, Honolulu’s coastline is made up of a number of famous beaches, Waikiki being the most famous. From these pristine shores, visitors can take part in tons of activities, from the adrenaline rush of some of the world’s best surfing to an afternoon nap in the sunshine. Other adventures might include snorkeling, swimming, and scuba diving. Lucky visitors might catch a glimpse of whales from the top of Diamond Head crater, which makes an already beautiful hike a little more special.
For those who prefer a trip that’s a little more urban, the city of Honolulu is bursting at the seams with culture, history, and incredible dining. The Hawaii Capital Historic District contains a number of historically significant buildings dating back to the early 1800s. Many of the buildings in this area, like Iolani Palace, were used as part of the Hawaiian monarchy and have been restored or preserved and are an important reminder of Hawaii’s history. If you’re looking for a lesson in more recent history, the Pearl Harbor National Museum is a monument to those who fought and died in World War II, with the USS Arizona Memorial and the USS Missouri. And while Honolulu has no shortage of history, its modern art galleries, museums, and theaters are sure to impress.
If your travel is more geared towards destination dining, the restaurant scene in the capital is a creative wonderland. Local chefs blend flavors from around the world with local cuisine and flavors originally brought to the islands by settlers and immigrants. As one would expect, the abundance of fresh seafood makes for some incredible meals across the city.
Whether you’re headed from Kona to Honolulu for business or pleasure, you’re bound to have an incredible time. Take time to experience the sights and sounds of the capital city or let the Pacific Ocean wash all your worries away on one of Oahu’s many pristine beaches. It’s hard not to let Honolulu take your breath away.
