When you deplane at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, you’ll be just a few miles away from downtown Phoenix. Hop on a bus, grab a taxi, or rent a car to get to your next adventure.
To truly appreciate the beauty of this desert landscape, head to the Desert Botanical Garden. The garden has more than 50,000 plants in its collection, many that are rare, threatened, or endangered. Beautiful cacti and agave are located throughout the grounds, while plants less accustomed to the local climate are kept in shadehouses. Once you’ve finished touring the gardens, head to nearby Papago Park, a desert oasis with endless activities.
Papago Park boasts the famous Hole-in-the-Rock, a natural rock formation containing small openings resulting from millions of years of erosion. Experienced climbers can summit the rocks and explore these chambers. There are plenty of opportunities for hikers and mountain bikers to explore the many trails throughout the park. Animal lovers can also enjoy the Phoenix Zoo, visiting the many species of animals and learning about the zoo’s conservation efforts.
If you’re looking for more recreational sporting activities, check out Papago Ponds for a unique urban fishing experience. These three ponds cover six miles and are stocked with fish year-round. While swimming is prohibited, you can rent a picnic spot along one of the lagoons to enjoy a relaxing day in a desert oasis. Finish up your leisure activities with a round at the Papago Golf Club, a favorite of golf professionals around the world.

If using the app or mobile web, you must list your name 30 minutes ahead of scheduled departure. You will receive a message based on the contact preference selected during booking if you are cleared on the flight. Group bookings and Unaccompanied Minors are not eligible for same-day standby. You will be required to pay any government taxes and fees associated with these itinerary changes but refunds will be provided. Your original boarding position is not guaranteed on your standby flight.
