To advance Southwest’s Citizenship efforts, we focus on three principles: loving People, building resilience, and living responsibly. We bring those principles to life by investing in partnerships and programs that drive economic, social and environmental impact. Through our investments and initiatives, we generate value for our business, our Customers and our communities.
We put our Heart in action by mobilizing our Employees to do well by doing good, developing programs to meet the needs of our diverse communities and engaging with business, civic and community leaders to be a globally-trusted citizen fostering authentic relationships that empower communities.
Whether in the air or on the ground, we believe community is more than a place—it’s at the Heart of what brings us together.
Southwest takes a focused approach to our giving, investing our corporate resources to make a positive impact in the communities we serve in the following areas.
Disaster and Crisis Response
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Education
Environmental Sustainability
Human Trafficking Awareness
Life-Changing Transportation
Workforce Development
We further our Community Outreach work and investments through signature outreach programs that include:
Adopt-A-Pilot: Since 1997, Southwest’s Adopt-A-Pilot Program has inspired thousands of fifth-grade students across the country through fun, STEM-centered activities and experiments. The program connects Southwest pilots with classrooms to provide lessons to spark students’ curiosity, introduce them to the world of aviation, and reinforce the importance of life values.
Medical Transportation Grant Program: The Southwest Airlines Medical Transportation Grant Program provides complimentary, roundtrip tickets to nonprofit hospitals and medical transportation organization so that medical patients and their family members can travel for specialized life-saving or life-changing medical care. ¡Lánzate!/Take Off! Travel Award Program: In partnership with the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, Southwest helps college students stay connected to their families while pursuing higher education. Since 2004, Southwest has helped more than 1,500 students soar by awarding roundtrip tickets through this travel award program.
Southwest Airlines Scholarship Program: Southwest Airlines believes educated communities are empowered communities, and that every student should have the opportunity to follow their educational dreams. Through the Southwest Airlines Scholarship Program, our mission is to provide opportunities that help build a diverse talent pipeline, while inspiring future generations to find careers within the airline industry.
Human Trafficking Awareness: As an airline, it’s important we do our part to understand this issue, help our Employees identify the indicators of Human Trafficking, and advocate for those who may be in a difficult situation. Southwest Airlines is proud to support multiple nonprofit organizations whose efforts help with the rescue, recovery, and restoration of Human Trafficking survivors. These organizations include Polaris, United Against Human Trafficking, Rethreaded, Project Concern International, Ho‘ōla Nā Pua, and Ayuda.
Southwest Airlines strives to support our communities during times of disaster and crisis. We partner with national and local organizations to support community programs and services focused on preparedness, response, and resilience. Our national disaster and crisis response partners include American Red Cross, Team Rubicon, and Feeding America.
Thank you for your interest in submitting a request for charitable support to Southwest Airlines. At this time, we are not accepting unsolicited requests.
Through our pillars of loving People, building resilience and living responsibly, we are invested in supporting local communities where our Customers and Employees live and work to thrive and take a partnership-driven approach to our donations and grantmaking.
Through Southwest’s Tickets for Time program, we honor and appreciate our Employee volunteers who give their time and talents to 501c3 nonprofits and schools by donating one roundtrip ticket (up to six per calendar year) for every 40 hours that Employees volunteer with that organization.
Thank you again for considering Southwest and for the positive difference your organization is making.
