Corporate Citizenship at Southwest®

At Southwest Airlines®, we put our Hearts into doing the right thing by our People and with respect to our planet—all supported by an unwavering focus on driving performance which is enabled by strong corporate governance. Our Citizenship efforts begin with our Purpose to connect People to what’s important in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel, and our Vision of being the world’s most loved, most efficient, and most profitable airline.

People

We’re a Company of People, focused on serving People—including Employees, Customers, and communities. People are, and always have been, the heartbeat of Southwest Airlines, and we work to advance and protect the things that are important in their lives including celebrating diversity, equity, and inclusion and supporting our communities through our outreach efforts. Our focus on People includes giving the same concern, respect, and care to each one of our People, whomever they are.

Planet

At Southwest Airlines®, being the airline with Heart includes respecting our Planet. In 2023, we launched our updated sustainability strategy, Nonstop to Net Zero, which outlines our path to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 20501 supporting a more sustainable future. See all the ways we show Heart for the Planet, from operational efficiencies and policies to community support.

1Our carbon emissions intensity reduction goals are compared against a 2019 baseline on a revenue ton kilometer (RTK) basis [including Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 Category 3 emissions (upstream emissions of jet fuel)] and includes the use of SAF and excludes the use of carbon offsets. Our net zero by 2050 goal includes Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 Category 3 emissions only and excludes any emissions associated with non-fuel products and services, such as inflight service items.
